Here’s how to use the CineMon app with your Sony ZV-E10 II and iPad:
Hardware you’ll need:
- iPad: Any iPad with a USB-C port will work.1
- Hardware Mount: This physically attaches your iPad to your camera (examples: SmallRig, Ulanzi).
- HDMI to USB-C Adapter: This connects the HDMI output of your Sony ZV-E10 II to the USB-C port on your iPad. Examples include:
- Elgato Cam Link 4K2
- Blackmagic Design UltraStudio Recorder 3G3
Software:
- CineMon app: Download and install this on your iPad from the App Store.
Setting it all up:
- Mount your iPad: Securely attach your iPad to your camera using the hardware mount.
- Connect the camera and iPad:
- Use an HDMI cable to connect the HDMI output of your Sony ZV-E10 II to the HDMI input on your adapter.
- Connect the USB-C end of the adapter to the USB-C port on your iPad.
- Launch the CineMon app: Open the app on your iPad. It should automatically detect the incoming video signal from your camera.

- Histogram: A graph that shows the distribution of tones in your image, from black to white. Helps you avoid overexposed or underexposed areas.
- False Color: This overlays colors on your image to represent specific luminance values, making it easier to judge exposure.
- Focus Peaking: Highlights the edges of in-focus objects in your image, making it easier to achieve critical focus.
- Zebras: Diagonal lines appear in areas of your image that are overexposed, helping you avoid blown-out highlights.
- Frame Guides: Overlays various composition guides on your image (rule of thirds, center cross, etc.).
- Anamorphic De-squeeze: If you’re using an anamorphic lens, this feature corrects the squeezed image for proper monitoring.
Important Notes:
- Latency: There might be a slight delay between what your camera sees and what’s displayed on the iPad. This is normal with any external monitor setup.
- Battery Life: Using your iPad as a monitor will consume its battery faster. Make sure to have a charging solution available for longer shoots.
