Using Synergy Dragon

How to set up Synergy Dragon across several computers, keep it connected, and fix it when a computer drops off. Written from a four-computer setup: one Mac and three Windows PCs.

Dragon is alpha software. App screens and wording change between builds.

How Dragon works

Your computers form one Dragon network. One computer is the leader: it holds the shared settings. The others join the leader's network, and you approve each one on the leader.

Symless released the first alpha, v0.1.0, on August 17, 2026. It is for existing Synergy customers, so downloading it needs an active Symless account. By mid-September the download page listed v0.4.0. Source: Symless announcement.

Set it up

Do the main computer first, then add the others one at a time.

  1. Download. Sign in at the Symless download page and get the Dragon installer for each operating system you use.
  2. Put every computer on one network. All of them on the same Wi-Fi or wired network, able to reach each other. A computer on a different network will not find the others, even with internet access.
  3. Install on the main computer. Use the computer whose keyboard and mouse you will keep. On a Mac, drag Synergy Dragon into Applications, open it, and approve the system prompts. This computer becomes the leader.
  4. Join the others. Install Dragon on each remaining computer, choose to join the existing network, then approve it on the main computer.
  5. Match your desk. Arrange the computers in the app the way the screens sit: left, middle, right. The pointer then crosses to the screen that is physically next to it.
  6. Let it update. Symless says the app announces a new build, downloads it, and installs it when you click restart. A computer only gets updates while it is connected to the network.

Keep it working

Most breakages we saw came from network changes.

Keep all computers on one network

If you switch Wi-Fi networks, move every Dragon computer. A setup split across two routers stops working.

Reserve IP addresses

When the router hands a computer a new address, the others can keep calling the old one. Reserve a fixed address for each computer in the router's DHCP settings.

Macs with Wi-Fi and Ethernet

Dragon uses the connection listed first in the network order. Put the connection the other computers share at the top: System Settings, Network, the menu under the list, Set Service Order.

VPNs don't help

In our setup Dragon talked over the local network only. The machines were also on Tailscale, and Dragon did not use it.

Fixes

Find the message you see, then do what it says. Mac log: /Library/Application Support/Synergy Dragon/logs/launchd.log

“Waiting for leader” or “leader not found”

This computer can't reach the main one. Check both are on the same network and the main computer is running Dragon. If this computer's address changed, restart Dragon so it registers the new one.

“This computer appears to have been removed from the network”

Often paired with “certificate signed by unknown authority” in the log. The main computer no longer recognizes this one, which can happen after its network is set up again. On the main computer, remove the old entry for this one. Then join again and approve it.

Rejoin doesn't work on a Mac

Start fresh. Stop Dragon's background service, then move (don't delete) this Mac's old identity: /Library/Application Support/Synergy Dragon/profiles/, /Library/Application Support/Synergy Dragon/device/, and the matching folder in ~/Library/Application Support/synergy-dragon/agent/. Restart the service. Dragon starts in setup mode, ready to join as a new computer. Needs an administrator password.
